High School Redesign Rationale
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities Piloting the “Pod” for High School Redesign has required continual learning about strategies to implement in order for this pilot to be successful (KSA 11). Such learning included: collaborative planning with teachers of differing disciplines, experimenting with flexible learning spaces and time-tabling, implementing effective individual student pacing. Reflection It was unsettling to start a new initiative where less than a year earlier was met with hostility from some parents and several colleagues. This school year was met with all sorts of challenges and a multitude of successes. When we were asked to share our “story” with other teachers at the Mighty Peace Teachers Convention, we were more than eager to reflect upon our on experience and review what our students thought of their life in the “pod.” The information that we gleaned was encouraging and more than enough fuel to inspire us to continue our journey with these students next year! |

Rationale
Being a part of the district's HS Redesign Committee touches upon KSAs 10 and 11. As part of the committee I have to establish partnerships among schools and colleagues as well as centre discussions around partnering with home and community. In order to be a contributing member I must consider current research as well as engage in professional discussion with my colleagues. Reflection One of the most professionally rewarding experiences over the last two years was to participate in HSR. Engaging in conversation with like-minded colleagues sparked a renewed sense of enthusiasm for my profession. Notable progress has resulted from our brainstorming, research resulting in a very successful year piloting a new program. |
